Darrius Morrow from East Carolina has been selected for StatSheet's C-USA Player of the Week for January 30th. StatSheet's C-USA Freshman of the Week is Ricky Tarrant from Tulane. And last but not least, Southern Miss's Darnell Dodson has won StatSheet's C-USA 6th Man of the Week. Morrow registered 3 assists per game, 70% shooting, and 8.5 rebounds per game. The East Carolina senior put these numbers up in a win against UAB and an unfortunate loss to Southern Miss.
Morrow led the Pirates in rebounding with 11 and added 5 blocked shots in a 72-60 loss to Southern Miss. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 24 points on 73% shooting in a 73-66 victory against UAB.
This is the first StatSheet C-USA Player of the Week honor for Darrius Morrow. However, he has finished second once. The runner-up this week is Memphis sophomore Will Barton. Honorable mention goes to senior Cameron Moore from UAB. Omar Oraby finished 15th and was the highest ranking player from Rice.
StatSheet C-USA Freshman of the Week: Tulane's Ricky Tarrant
Ricky Tarrant averaged 36 minutes as a starter for Tulane. His averages in both scoring (25.5 pts per game) and free throws (9.5 per game) led all C-USA freshmen. In an 80-74 win over Southern Methodist, Tarrant led the Green Wave in scoring with 33 points and added 3 steals. Then in an 88-74 loss to Rice, he led all scoring with a 18 point show and added 8 assists.
Amazingly, Ricky Tarrant has won the StatSheet C-USA Freshman of the Week 3 times. TaShawn Thomas from Houston grabs runner-up. Our own Ahmad Ibrahim takes honorable mention.
StatSheet C-USA 6th Man of the Week: Southern Miss's Darnell Dodson
Senior Darnell Dodson, a 6-7 reserve guard, played an average of 19 minutes over two games for the Golden Eagles. In a 72-60 win against East Carolina, Dodson put up 10 points and 6 rebounds. Then in a 78-65 win over UCF, he racked up 22 points and 8 rebounds.
This is the second StatSheet C-USA 6th Man of the Week honor for Darnell Dodson. Wesley Witherspoon, a senior forward/guard from Memphis, is the runner up. Our own Omar Oraby receives honorable mention. Rice players have not yet been named StatSheet C-USA Player of the Week this season.
